"Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow, which was brought upon me, which the LORD inflicted on the day of his fierce anger." Lamentations 1:12.
As the passion and death of Jesus Christ attest, God will go to every length necessary to rescue his people – and rescue even the Creation itself – from the death spiral brought on by Adam's disobedience in the garden of Eden.
In Christ, death and sorrow and grief give way to unexpected, overflowing joy: As Anthanasius says in his treatise On the Incarnation, "The death of all [people] was consummated in the Lord's body; yet, because [the Son], the Word was in it, death and corruption were in the same act utterly abolished." The God who made us is the same God who remakes us even after we persistently seek to unmake ourselves.
Come walk the way of the cross with Jesus and the people of Christ Church as we follow him through his death to the empty tomb.
